Contrat postdoctoral Islamologie : « Les perceptions de la figure du Prophète Mahomet »

Le Labex RESMED lance un appel à candidatures à un contrat post-doctoral d’un an commençant le 1er septembre 2016 dans le cadre du programme Islamologie qui vise à soutenir de jeunes chercheurs en islamologie. Le projet Islamologie est rattaché au Labex RESMED (voir le programme scientifique du Labex RESMED).
Le projet de recherche du candidat doit s’insérer dans la partie du programme Islamologie qui porte sur la perception de la figure du Prophète Mahomet dans le monde méditerranéen. Le projet peut porter sur une période de son choix (entre les débuts de l’islam et la période contemporaine).
Date limite de candidature : 8 avril 2016.
Éligibilité
Le/la candidat(e) devra avoir soutenu en France ou à l’étranger, avant le 8 avril 2016, et au plus tôt dix ans avant cette date, un doctorat en islamologie / histoire de l’islam / sciences des religions / ou une autre discipline (sociologie, …) en adéquation avec la recherche demandée. Il/elle sera formé(e) à l’étude critique des textes et à l’analyse historico-critique, ainsi que, de préférence (mais pas obligatoirement), à histoire de la tradition religieuse islamique ancienne et médiévale, notamment le hadîth et la sîra. Le/a candidat(e) devra avoir la maitrise de l’arabe classique, des connaissances sérieuses en histoire de l’islam, une conscience des enjeux contemporains autour de l’interprétation des textes fondateurs de l’islam, et une ouverture aux sciences des religions en général.
Le projet de recherche proposé par le/a candidat(e) doit porter sur un ou plusieurs aspect(s) de la question de réception de la figure de Mahomet, entre représentations croyantes et caricatures. Le projet de recherche proposé peut se concentrer sur l’histoire des dogmes islamiques concernant la personne du Prophète (par exemple : son impeccabilité, son illettrisme) ou bien porter sur la manière dont un de ces dogmes a été perçu dans un milieu historique déterminé, ou encore, sur les rites et les pratiques découlant de ces dogmes ou de ces représentations, comme sur le rapport du croyant aux compagnons du Prophète, aux Imams chiites, aux saints soufis, toujours en lien avec la figure du Prophète Mahomet.
Le rôle du /de la postdoctorant(e) consistera à :
– effectuer des recherches personnelles en lien avec l’axe 2 du programme Islamologie : La figure de Mahomet entre représentations croyantes et caricatures, décrit ci-dessus.
– coopérer à la mise en œuvre d’une école d’été (prévue en 2017) rassemblant des jeunes chercheurs en islamologie
– participer à l’organisation des colloques/tables rondes/journées d’études mis en place dans le cadre du programme « Islamologie ».

One-year postdoctoral research position in Islamic studies on « Perceptions of the figure of the Prophet Muhammad ».
The Laboratory of Excellence (Labex) « Religions and Societies in the Mediterranean » (RESMED) is pleased to announce a one-year postdoctoral position, starting on 1 September 2016 within the framework of the “Islamologie” program, which aims at supporting junior researchers in the study of religious aspects of Islam. The “Islamologie” program is attached to the Labex RESMED (see the scientific program of the Labex).
The research proposal of the candidate should take place within the part of the “Islamologie” program, which studies the perceptions of the figure of the Prophet Muhammad in the Mediterranean world. The candidate can propose a project on a time period of his choice (from Early Islam up to the contemporary period).

Eligibility
The candidate should have defended his/her PhD before 8 April 2016 – and the earliest 10 years before this date – in History of Religious Islamic Thought, Islamic Studies, Religious Studies, or any field related to the research theme (such as Sociology, …). He/she will be trained in historical-critical approach of texts, as well as, preferably (but not exclusively) in History of the Islamic religious ancient and medieval tradition, especially Hadîth and Sîra. He/she should master Classical Arabic, and have extensive knowledge of Islamic History, consciousness about contemporary issues at stake in the interpretation of founding texts of Islam, as well as an opening to Religious Studies in general.
The research project proposed by the candidate should address any aspect of the question of the reception of the figure of Prophet Muhammad, from believers’ perceptions to caricatures. The research proposal may focus on the history of Islamic dogma about the Prophet (for instance, his impeccability or his illiteracy), or on the way one of these dogmas has been perceived within a determined historical milieu. It may also deal with rituals and practice stemming from these dogmas and representations, as well as with the relationship between the believer and the Companions of the Prophet/the Shi’i Imams/or the Sufi saints, as linked to the figure of Muhammad.
The duties of the postdoctoral researcher will be the following:
– to work on his/her personal research project within the axe 2 of the “Islamologie” program (the Figure of Muhammad from believers’ perceptions to caricatures), as described above;
– to cooperate in the organisation of a Summer Academy (2017)
– to cooperate in the organisation of colloquiums/round tables/conferences within the framework of the “Islamologie” program.
